ADVICE TO ALL

Asslam o alaykum,

Dear applicants of the electrical power engineering in German universities, there an advice and new info for you all..

1 , Technical university of Munich has also started the power engineering program but this one is more related to mechanical and chemical engineering. i.e. more emphasize is on process and Generation of power.you can check out the program contents.power engineering program in TUM
P.S. TUM is ranked amongst the best engineering universities in the World.
2. for those interested in electrical power engineering , my sincere advice is that try to get admission either in RWTH Aachen or TU darmstadt (both ranked amongst  the best engineering universities in Germany).

for RWTH Aachen the deadline is 1st of mrach while for TU darmstadt it is 30th of June..

note, try not to get admission in TU Cottbus ( this is for those having bachelors in Electrical power engineering). but if you dont have background in power engineering and you want to do power engineering in any way from Germany then TU Cottbus is best for you. ( 'coz no other university will admit you in power engineering) ..

for any info you need reagrding power engineering in Germany, just leave comment..

have a nice day.

  2. there are various reasons.
    1. the standard of power engineering program here is too low.
2.the city isn't that good, you wont enjoy
3.the people here are too annoying
4.the situation of part time jobs is very bad.
    5. you don't get thesis on time as they have only one professor.
    6. no practical labs.
7.in power engineering , they have only one
    professor
    Try to go to west..

  8. I am myself is from RWTH Aachen EPE program. i have been to East and now in west Germany. there is no doubt that the quality of education of EPE program bith in RWTH and TU darmstadt are of very high caliber. they hard to pass. they are good. you should come to either these two universities or TU munich is also a good option

I am Instrumentation engineer with almost all the pre-requisite courses covered in the under-graduate studies. I have applied to TU Darmstadt for Electrical Power Engineering. I have a first class degree and a 3 1/2 years of work experience in the industrial process automation line in a highly reputed US MNC. What are my chances of getting into the course?
Also I would like to know when would I be notified about the acceptance or rejection since I am planning to take up german courses before my master's studies.
    Your inputs are highly valuable.

  15. Can you please provide me with more information regarding TU Cottbus in terms of job opportunities after graduation from the Master Program EPE at TU Cottbus. According to 4icu it is ranked as one of the top 500 universities in the world (Ranked as 498) while TUM is ranked as 2864. Of course TUM is a top university but is TU Cottbus really bad? Your advice and help would be greatly appreciated

    Best Regards,
    Tamer

  16. @ Aspiring Engineer: if you fulfill all the pre requisites then you should get into the program but i can say nothing as it is purely their decision but your chances are quite high with such profile :)

@Tamer: forget about 4icu. it is not authentic. you want good career, good student life, good city, good environment, good people, a world class university then RWTH Aachen, TU darmstadt, TU Munich are very good choices. but if you don't want to study and just want to get degree of Germany then TU cottbus is good. there are many draw back for cottbus, o student jobs.

any ways decision is yours :)

  17. @ Abdul Wahab: First of all thank you for your prompt reply and your really helpful information.

Of course no sane human being would turn down the opportunity to join TUM, RWTH Aachen or TU Darmstadt. The thing is I was turned down by Darmstadt and my chances don't seem too good at RWTH Aachen as I hold a B. Sc. Engineering with a major in Biomedical & Systems Enginering. I have over two years of full time work experience in the Power transmission & Distribution industry at Siemens Egypt as a Project Procurement Manager for HV Substations. After asking the program directors of the above mentioned universities I received the following replies.

TUM: I am eligible to apply as they say that my studies have some courses in common as well as for my work experience.

TU Cottbus: I am eligible to apply due to my work experience only.

TU Darmstadt: Only accept B.Sc. Electrical Engineering (I am ineligible to apply).

RWTH Aachen: They say I can apply after paying the application fee but they say that they need a B.Sc Electrical Engineering and they can't decide except after receiving the full application and the fee.

Note: My TOEFL iBt score is 95.
I did not take the GRE exam and to be honest I don't intend to.

*The thing is I would like to know if TU Cottbus would get me a good job in Germany after graduation and does it have a good reputation in the job market?
*I will apply for both of TUM & TU Cottbus and see where I will get accepted.

Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long story :)

I wish you all the best with your studies.

    Best Regards,
    Tamer

  18. @ Abdul Wahab: I have another important question: Of course if I get admitted to both of TUM and TU Cottbus I will go heart and soul for TUM :).

But if I don't is it possible for me to transfer from TU Cottbus to TUM, RWTH Aachen or TU Darmstadt after completing a semester or so at TU Cottbus?

Is it an easy process? And finally will I get my degree from TUM, RWTH Aachen or Darmstadt as if I have been there from the first place if I transfer from TU Cottbus?

I know I have bombarded you with many questions but I really need your advice. :)

    Best Regards,
    Tamer

  19. @tamer, forget about credit transfer brother, i myself transfered mt credits from TU Cottbus to RWTH Aachen and out of 50 CP they transferred only 8 :(.

one main point :- if you get good grades in TU Cottbus then there is no problem that u dont get a job, you will get job. Cottbus might not be very famous in Germany but it the only technical university of Brandenburg state.no one will let you down on the basis of your university. if you get good grade, you will get internship as well as Job inshAllah as many of the students i know , they are either doing jobs or doing internships.

The problem is with the quality of Education.you dont feel like studying in Germany as the course content is too low for those who have done Bsc in power engineering (for you i guess it would be ok). the living conditions, the student jobs, the people, the environment,no one speaks English there.too many extreme right wing guys there.

you see you don't only come to study but u live a life man for 2 years. Well brother for me, it was life and quality of education that made me change the university but if you can make a compromise with the living then TU Cottbus is good option.

I intend insha ALLAH to apply for both of TUM & TU Cottbus by mid of January 2011 insha ALLAH.

TUM application period has not yet started but should open by mid of December 2010.

If you don't mind I will keep you updated.
    :D

I would also like to get your e-mail as well if you are OK with it.

    Best Regards,
    Tamer

Are you familiar with pakistani GPA system and can you predict that what should be the minimum GPA to get admission in TUM or RWTH electrical power engineering course.I am from uet lahore, pakistan.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Farooq. it depends. i dont know how they select the candidates. some times a guy with GPA of 2.1/4 gets admitted and some times a guy with GPA 3.7/4 gets rejected. there are many factors i.e. working experience and the way you write your proposal.

    ReplyDelete

  30. Hi, I now have the opportunity to study Msc in UK(Manchester, southampton or Strathclyde) or Germany(TU Darmstadt). They all major in power engineering or electrical & electronic engineering. What do you suggest? Considering the study duration and the pay-back. Thanks a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Anonymous

I would say Manchester is good based on many factors.

    1.language barrier.
2.university if Manchester is very good( TUD is also good but University if Manchester has got good reputation all over the world).
3.In Germany , normal we dont have social life
because of language barrier and also we dont have a very big indo pak community . u feel lost.
4.the course of TUD is very very hard.
    5. i would say University if Manchester is good option.

    6. pay back depends how good u study whatever the univ may be.

P.S. the amount of money that u will spend here in Germany for two years and in UK in 1 year is same.

decision is yours but if i had got chance , i would have gone to university of Manchester.

  32. @Anonymous : Also the job prospectus here in Germany largely depends upon how good German you know and thats the biggest offset.

    1) part time job opportunities
    2) can i change my university if i fail to adjust in BYU cottbus

  55. @fawad khan

dear there are almost no part time jobs in cottbus.if you are lucky , you might get one but none of us got any part time job in Cottbus.

The credit transfer is a risky business. there is no university (specifically in Power) which offers admission in summer. for credit transfer, you have to apply to that university through general process. after you get admitted then you get ex matriculation from your current university and then get enrolled in your new university, only after than you can apply for credit transfer. it is a risk, what if your all credits are not transferred??? , even if one subject in winter is not exempted ,you have to study that whole semester for that subject only. you can not move forward. i tried this, i got my credits transferred from Cottbus to RWTH but i have to study 2 years.

    decision is your..

  56. Dear Korai,
I have decided to apply to German Technical Universities this year.I want to apply to MS Electrical Power Engineering.I want to ask you about the selection in MS Electrical Power Engineering.

    1. what will be the criteria for selection in RWTH Aachen?
    2. How many places are there for MS Electrical Power in RWTH Aachen?
3.My percentage is 69% and i fulfill the german average grade point criteria for admission in RWTH Aachen and i don't have experience yet and my Bachelor degree is in Electrical Power Engineering . so what do you think how much possibility i have in getting admission there?
4.about how many applicants apply to RWTH for MS in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING POWER every year?
sorry i have asked you so many questions in one message...:P

    regards
    Ajab Khan

    ReplyDelete
  57. 1. to be honest, i really don't know the selection criterion. some times a guy with with percentage of 67% is accepted while other with 82% is rejected.
2.normally they take 20 to 25 students every year
    3. you really have a good chance to get admission
    4. i dont know the number but the acceptance ratio is 4:1 or 5:1.

you should apply and inshAllah , everything will be good for you.

  58. Hi!!
How will you rank the MS Power engg programs at RWTH, TU Munich & TU Darmstadt?? If one gets admission from all three univ then which one would be the best choice in terms of future prospects ??

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi again!!
How will you rate the scandinavian universities vis-a-vis the german ones?? NTNU Trondheim, KTH Stockholm, DTU Copenhagen. Would you advise applying for power engg in these uiv??

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Jalaludin- JD. TU Munich EPE is totally different from those of RWTH Aachen and TUD. it depends upon your interest. if you get admitted both in TUD and RWTH Aachen, then you can choose ant of these two. both are good. i also got admitted in both and i chose RWTH as it is ranked above TUD. about scandinavian universities , i cant say more as i have not been there but i would always prefer German Universities. there are thousands of opportunities for Electrical Engineers in Germany and i guess German companies would prefer a guy whose education is in German University and also u get to learn German language also.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Main sukraguzaar hun aapke reply kaa.

But the thing is that I'm apprehensive of learning german language as I do not have any prior knowledge of it. Also I've heard that it is difficult to gain employment in German companies unless you have a fair command of the language. Is it really so?? How well have you mastered German?? Do u feel confident? Is it easy? Don't u feel that learning German along with your curriculum studies is an additional burden??

Plz provide some views on this.... :P
